Selling your used Canon camera doesn’t have to be difficult. Follow our hints and tips for a quick sale and a fair price.
Photography can often be a costly hobby. As your skills and experience develop, you naturally want to progress to more sophisticated cameras and photographic equipment, and this can prove expensive.
Luckily there is a good market for second-hand cameras out there, and selling your used camera is a great way to make some money towards the latest bit of ‘must-have’ kit. If you’re looking to sell canon camera for cash, there are steps you can take to help ensure your get a quick sale for a fair price.
Prepare your equipment
When it comes to selling second-hand cameras, there is a lot of competition out there, so in order to maximise your chance of a sale, you need to make sure that your equipment looks its best. It’s surprising how much dust and dirt cameras can pick up through everyday use, so give it a good clean using a microfibre cloth and a lenspen. Another alternative to cleaning your lens is employing an air blower to remove bits of grit or dust trapped in the camera body. Any stubborn stains can be tackled with some methylated spirit and an old toothbrush.
Find the original box
As well as giving your camera a good clean, it also pays to dig out the box it came in. Second-hand cameras that have their original packaging tend to sell more quickly and for higher prices than those without. While you’re at it, try to find the original accessories that came with your camera, such as the strap, user manual, cables, and software. These components will make your equipment much more attractive to potential buyers.
Set a fair price
Setting the right price can be the most difficult part of selling your camera. You want to make sure you receive a fair price for your equipment, but at the same time you don’t want to price yourself out of the market. We find that it always helps to do some research and find out the going rate for similar products by looking at websites that specialise in selling second-hand cameras, as well as auction sites such as eBay.
Find the right selling platform
Perhaps the most important thing you need to consider when selling your camera is what platform to use, and there are a number of different options available to you. eBay and similar auction sites are always a popular choice, particularly as they enable sellers to reach a large audience of buyers, as well as offering a level of financial protection for both customers and retailers. On the downside, there is a lot of competition on these sites which can drive prices down, and they also charge a small commission price on sales, further reducing your profits.
Other second-hand sales platforms such as Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree allow you to sell goods commission-free, however, there is little protection for buyers so you need to be vigilant to potential scams.
Probably the easiest and safest way to sell your used camera is to go through a reputable second-hand dealer. They will be able to give you an immediate quote, and once you have accepted it and they have checked over your equipment, they will give you immediate payment. The dealer obviously takes a cut so you may make slightly less money than if you sold it elsewhere, but the speed and simplicity of this method more than make up for it.
Selling your used camera doesn’t have to be difficult. With the right sales platform, a fair price, and a well-presented product, you’ll soon find a buyer for your camera, leaving you with the funds to purchase the latest model.
